Etraffic Solutions add three former UVic Computer Science grads to development department

August 15, 2007

Etraffic Solutions has hired three former graduates from the University of Victoria as new Web Application Developers.  All three of them have Bachelor Degrees in Computer Science.

“It’s a great testament to the program at UVic,” said Sandra van Katwijk, Production Manager for Etraffic Solutions.  “It feels good to be able to hire locally.”

Jenny van Hoof joins Etraffic as a Senior Web Application Developer.

“I’ve always been a programmer, always making databases,” said van Hoof, a UVic grad from 2006.  Originally from Ohio, Jenny started programming in Germany and continued for a time in Portland, Oregon.  She came up, with her husband, to Victoria to pursue a degree.

Jenny is looking forward to being in a work environment where “the software is the product.”  Outside of the job, she has a strong interest in writing and languages (speaking French fluently).  One interesting project is a mixed media novel that combines screenshots from the game The SIMS with a story over 1.5 million words.

A 2007 UVic graduate, Magnus Reithaug joins the company as a Junior Web Application Developer.

Magnus, in addition to his degree at UVic, has a Diploma of Electrical Engineering from the British Columbia Institute of Technology.  He found out about the job opportunity from some friends currently in the development department at the company.

Matthew Bystedt makes the move back to Vancouver Island from Japan to accept the role of Web Application Developer.

Originally from the Cowichan Valley, Matthew has spent the past few years living in Japan.  A 2003 graduate from the University of Victoria, he has been teaching English and becoming fluent in Japanese the past few years.
