News1130.com: E-solution to high cost of school textbooks?

Monday, September 17 -  Jim Goddard

VICTORIA (NEWS1130) - A Victoria software company says school boards hard pressed to pay for the high cost of textbooks has a computer based solution to to those sky-high prices. Wayne Poncia from Etraffic Solutions says by letting students do their homework on their computers, they don't need to take textbooks home.

That way just one set of books for the classroom would be needed, no matter how many students are taking a course. He says just using that for Math 10 in BC would be a great environmental saver. "We can save 1,400 trees with this approach, remove the equivalent of 35 Ford Mustangs off the road, or save over 600,000 toilet flushes, would be the amount of waste water saved." We could also save a huge amount of money.

Poncia says to replace every text book for BC's grade 10 math students would cost $3.2 million. The e-solution would cost a quarter of that.
