Second language resources Let’s Discover French and Let’s Discover Spanish allow North American students to compete with international students.
Victoria, BC, March 19, 2009
As technology continues to advance and societies work in a more global arena, the question arises about how to prepare students for a world where success is dependent upon the ability to compete and cooperate with others far beyond one’s borders.
The second language resources published by Etraffic Press are just one of the ways schools in North America are addressing this issue. “Let’s Discover Spanish and Let’s Discover French are textbooks combined with online media for modern learners. Providing learning material in a format that students today are comfortable with allows for greater interaction with and retention of the curriculum,” says John Juricic, Partner with Etraffic Press. “The more languages a student learns during their formative years, the better prepared they will be for business communications in the global village after graduation.”
Mary Ellen Bafumo, Consultant in Leadership Program Development for Florida’s Council for Educational Change, couldn’t agree more. She wrote a white paper entitled, “Elementary Schools for a Global Era,” which was sponsored by the Asia Society and Sesame Street Workshop, partners in helping schools develop global skills. The paper was disseminated at the Asia Society’s conference in Washington, D.C. in July of 2008. “Second and third language skills are vital in a global society. They are no longer options, but necessities. The ability to communicate effectively in more than one language puts students ahead on the road to success,” says Bafumo.
Although the Asia Society has yet to disseminate the paper to the public, it is available upon request from www.asiasociety.org. The paper lists Etraffic Press’ Let’s Discover Spanish and Let’s Discover French as language resources for students.
Studying a second or even third foreign language is mandatory for students in the European Union, China, and many other countries. With these new language resources from Etraffic Press, students in North America will be able to go global on a level field of play.
