Lead author of a technology enriched second language resource is recognized for enhancing the learning environment of students.

On June 4, 2009, delegates of the National Technology Innovation Awards (NTIA) will get a comprehensive look at a new Grade 7-8 French second language resource. Lise Pethybridge, Lead Author, is the latest recipient of a NTIA award for her work on Let’s Discover French 2, which was developed for the Alberta Distance Learning Centre (ADLC) by Etraffic Press.

The National Technology Innovation Awards, sponsored by The Learning Partnership, honors the achievements of educators who use technology to enhance the learning environment for their students. Let’s Discover French is a blended resource that utilizes both print and online multimedia to deliver a comprehensive French program. Language-embedded games, animations, audio files, and an interactive pronunciation guide engage students with the learning material.

“Students today live in a digital world and are comfortable using the net and media devices. By incorporating educational multimedia elements into the resource, Let’s Discover French aligns students’ experiences in the classroom with their lives outside of school,” says Barry Carbol, K-12 Publisher at Etraffic Press. “Everyone involved in the making of Let’s Discover French celebrate in this award that recognizes our efforts to advance education and better meet students’ needs.”

Let’s Discover French 2 is due to be released through the Etraffic Press online catalogue later this year. Let’s Discover French: Introduction and Level 1 are available starting at $14.95 and are currently being used in schools across Canada.
